In response to the Covid-19 pandemic we are frequently adding new resources and putting trial access to new databases in place.

Trial access to the following resources is now available. Access on HSE sites is automatic (they are all listed on the EBSCO databases platform). If you are offsite login via ‘search elibrary’ with your Athens login.

Global Health

Global Health brings together key literature on public health. It covers all aspects of public health at both international and community levels, as well as a wealth of material from other biomedical and life science fields.

eBooks – Clinical Collection

Any time access to clinical e-books. This subscription collection features more than 3,800 e-books designed for use in clinical settings, biomedical libraries and academic-medical institutions.  Topic areas include, Dermatology, Gynecology and Obstetrics, Internal Medicine, Medicine (General), Nursing, Ophthalmology, Otorhinolaryngology, Pathology, Pediatrics, Pharmacology and Surgery.

eBooks – Mental Health Collection

A curated collection including more than 500 popular selections in psychoanalysis, psychotherapy, counselling, social psychology, evolutionary psychology, developmental psychology, and more.

The collection includes more than 700 e-books designed for use in hospitals, medical institutions and academic institutions. From clinical guides, and evidence-based practice manuals, to practical handbooks and professional growth titles, this collection allows researchers to quickly find and access the information they need to provide outstanding patient care. Subjects include, Nursing Research & Theory, Pharmacology, Nursing Management, Evidence-Based Nursing, Home Care Nursing and Leadership.

Harvard Business Review Press  

Harvard Business Review Press Collection includes HBR’s complete catalogue of e-books and provides comprehensive leadership and management coverage.

New Resources and trials March / April

Elsevier Clinical Skills

Clinical skills is now available openly to all Irish healthcare workers (No login needed). A range of 37 skills are available including;

GIDEON (Global Infectious Diseases and Epidemiology Online Network)

This resource focuses on detection, prevention, and treatment of infectious diseases providing. It provides access to epidemiological information and disease tracking details.

GIDEON is available on the HSE network and can be accessed remotely via Athens. HSE employees can sign up for an Athens account by clicking ‘set up an account’ under the Open Athens icon on the front page of the website.

Web of Science

A collection of over 21,000 peer-reviewed, high-quality scholarly journals covering over 250 science, social sciences, and humanities disciplines.

Web of Science also includes conference proceedings and book data. It is available on the HSE network and remote access is available via Athens.
